This is absoutely pathetic. They're making? fun of farm accidents? Um excuse me, I live on a farm and if an accident did happen it would not be funny. And no farm families dont say "oh no my kid worked on farmed and died." We work on farms to raise livestock and crops for EVERYONE in the world to eat. Our parents teach us how to do it right so accidents don't happen and so we are able to work and learn responsibilty and work ethic. (which plenty of kids this days are lacking anyways.)

The Senatoir gave a very stupid reason for his objection to the new child labor laws. Then again, he's a Senator AND a new-style Republican so what could one expect. But, I worked on 'truck farms' back in the 1960's when I was younger than 16. I got paid, same as the adults, by the box, quart, pint, whatever measurement for what? we picked. It was a way to earn money for myself. The farmers were always grateful for the help and we had no problems. But, times have changed. Right, Senator?

They also do it in south korea, I've seen some in Germany, england, france, and when I was visiting my cousin on the rev they did it there to. So that is where I? got it from.

Also ask about the electrcity the schools leave them on even after school hours. And the school buses some drivers use? them for personal use. In fact schools are not underfunded but overpaid compared to what they have. If parents actually cared about their kids they would ask these questions. But I have my doubts sorry if that may offend you.

As far as schools being underfunded this may shock you. Our school bored has been giving themselves a bonuse valued at $850-3000 every 3 months. When the kids in my grade found out we asked about and were told we would not understand. Funny thing my grade out of all others had the Highest attendance, Higest grades, And Highest teacher evaluation (which affects funds). So you might want to? ask about it.

Well as far as cleaning their classrooms that should be done out of respect for their fellow classmates and teacher. Lawn & Gardening, community service, and library asstiant (The community library too.) could be paid by the community or business (child labor law to enforce fair treatment). If this is done a town would look better. And the kids would learn responsillity they could also learn? about monetary value.

I think we can agree on that :).? But the schools are so underfunded and understaffed I wonder how they'd come up with the funds for that.

Ah yes but this is were child labor laws can act as a union. To keep? them from factories, and low pay. Instead of say it's ok to work for free. I hardly see an adults volunteer for what kids do. So if they are paid for it and since the adults hardly do those jobs it will not take away. Library assistant can be for kids since they already volunteer. (Yes I accept the school part I've been to schools where kids do nothing. So I guess we can agree there?)

I think that in the schools its ok to do, but when the process is privatized it opens up a completely different can of worms. 13 hour shifts, no pay for little work, paying the children less and taking away jobs from adults. That type of life is .ok. for adults but children? don't deserve that kind of duress.

I'll give it. Learned differently when I was a kid only sleep 7 hours. Military 5-6 hours. Anyways kids volunteer for lawnscape and garden, libraries, and? community service Why not pay them instead of getting free labor? Also after class why can they not clean the room. I did along with others. I mean hot water and soap is not dangerous unless the kid drinks it. Yes? No? (To me it's like saying it's wrong to pay them but it's ok when it's free.)

6-7 hrs is? considered unhealthy for an adult. children need 8-10. Check your facts

School is eight ...
School is eight hours a child only needs to sleep between 6-7 hours. Then the time between traveling between school and home. The kid can work 2-4 hours but no more no matter what. That still leaves plenty of time to study and play. I did and I worked 4 hours a day. I passed in school and had plenty of fun. I played baseball, rode my bicycle,? and played the regular nintendo. When agricultur took a hit my family suffered pretty bad. But I still cleaned my house and classroom.

I like you guys but please do not knock on agriculture it's hard enough. There is always that chance. I was raised on a farm and I worked to eat (Poverty, farms lost profit.) As far as child labor laws go here is my opinion. There are 24 hours in a day. Let kids work between 3-4 hours if you? want to pay them. If not teach them to clean there own classroom atleast. Should only poor kids do this? No! All kids should do this to learn responsbility. No they should not drop out of school for a job.

You're so stupid. First of all this is just a principle of freedom. If two individuals in our free world want to work with eachother, age doesn't matter, they should be allowed? to do that. If a kid wants to work out of his free will you have NO right to come in through the force of government and prevent him from doing that. It's so simple. If then on the other hand the employer tries to enslave the children, as many of you liberals think, they get put in jail. SIMPLE.
